I ended up not registering for selective service because, IF YOUR READ THE BACK OF THE SELECTIVE SERVICE FORM(!) it is ILLEGAL. It is against the law for a woman to do so.

As a Viet Nam ERA veteran, I do not intentionally go around breaking the law.

I don’t consider that ’slacking’.

I was the first woman to enlist AND SERVE from Creek COUNTY OK, in 1971. Understand what I’m saying here? 1971 was the first time a woman bothered to serve her country from that particular county was my point.

I was not sent into a combat zone. Women who weren’t nurses or career weren’t sent to combat zones, but neither were the 7,000 MEN I served with. That doesn’t make me or any one of them a “slacker”.

I’ve served my time, and I’m proud of it.

I think the ‘equal rights’ gals need to ‘man up’ and get this last standing inequality rectified.

You are giving us just a tad too much to swallow. You really need to smell what you are shoveling. Even the military does not know how many women went to ‘Nam let alone who was first in what county.

It is nice that you had the choice of not doing it without any threat of fine, imprisonment or both.
(So which is it did you serve during ‘Nam or did you not end up doing it? . . . you words not mine . . . it seems that you cannot remember from one sentence to the next what yarn you are spinning)

To protest this war you should not have taken your son to the post office. A woman mother, wife, or girlfriend, sister should not take a man to go register it is a conflict of interest and hypocritical.

It would be nice if you would quote this law that states that it will fine and or imprison a woman for her attempt to register with the selective service.

BTW, NO ONE CAN AFFORD THE TIME OR THE FINE, THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR STANCE YOU ARE NOT VERY CONVICTED TO IT. I CANNOT AFFORD IT EITHER BUT YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO . . . I DID NOT / COULD NOT GET STUDENT LOANS AND JOBS THAT PAID 6 FIGURES THAT I WAS QUALIFIED FOR BECAUSE I WOULD NOT SHOW A SELECTIVE SERVICE CARD. THAT MY DEAR IS THE MEANING OF DEDICATION TO A CAUSE.

YOU KNOW THAT WHOLE ANNOYING THING ABOUT “FREEDOM IS NOT FREE” DOES NOT MEAN JUST PICKING UP ARMS. IT INCLUDES THINGS CONSIDERED TREASONOUS ACTS WHEN SOME LAW(S) IS(ARE) SO ASKEW THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO FIGHT IT, YOU KNOW LIKE OUR FOUNDING FATHERS.

I hope that you do not put yourself in the non-slacker category because you did just that, slacked. You ended up not doing it both, going to ‘Nam and or registering with the selective service / draft. You see this way you have both ends covered you can say that you “were” going to go, and you tried to register to show how sexist the law is but you done neither. You did not help either cause, sorry.

Women everywhere in the US could not be charged with rape until recently because rape was defined as penetration of the vagina. The best you could hope for boy or man was sexual assault.

I have been saying this for years and no one has been listening. So that being said the war is not over there are some of us who are in the trenches, the pockets of resistance and are still fighting and will till we are in a hole.

Do not give up. Keep the faith, because my friend, the pendulum ALWAYS swings the other way and it is near its current apex.

You see you can be proud if you do not give up. You can say you were there on the front lines when no one though it was important. Then you will be there when we collect the spoils not for ourselves but perhaps for our sons or grandsons. That is good enough for me, how about you?
