I disagree, Brokeback Mountain is a good love story on it’s own (despite the fact it’s two men), while when I saw The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe I found it to be just boring and poorly acted. The characters were simply one-dimensional; there was nothing to them.
And who cares about awards/awards shows? Awards shows are simply a way for the liberal media to do a little more self-masturbation.

I disagree about it being a good story on it’s own.
i saw that movie… i’m not homo-sexual… but i knew what the movie was about goin in and i thought that it would be a good story and almost justify why two cowboys just go homo-sexual… but they couldn’t even last two weeks!!! got a lil drunk and started butt plowin’! the story could have been a hell of a lot better… and the movie could have been alot more believable with indi actors not heath ledger and jake jilinhall takin’ it in the butt. there was hardly any character development.just my .02 Cents

Well its a shoe in for the Oscars as well but not reflected in the box office. Last time I checked it had done $26m but was falling off fast. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe has done $263m and running.
Not sure what it cost to make but looks like a major wallet hit for the makers.

I didn’t see the movie but I will say this: videogames sales peaked at $10 billion dollars for 2005. It was a big for the electronic entertainment industry precisely because movies are so bad these days.
I expect sales will only increase in the future since it is unlikely that movies will get better.

I don’t see what the fuss is about.
Movies with gay themes, even gay love stories are nothing new. One of my favorite films happens to be “Four Weddings And A Funeral” ( I just know I’m going to get flamed for this). The most endearing characters in the movie are the two gay characters, one whom ends up comprising the funeral of the title. They were the funniest, and the most affectionate in the film, I thought. The primary difference is that there was no overt sex in this film, yet it conveyed love perfectly well. What escapes most of these critics and others who spew forth superlatives about Brokeback Mountain like so much verbal diarrhea is that sexual content in any mainstream film, hetero or gay, is there to titillate some and shock some others. They wrap it up in all kinds of justification as being a natural extensions of love. Fine; I just don’t want to see two guys bone-smuggling each other; it’s not my cup of tea. If that makes me a homophobe, that’s equally fine.
My guess is that this movie is just another insipid love story that caters to women’s propensities for intense emotion emotion emotion. All it’s trying to do in truth is cash in on shock and awe by making the love interests the same sex; big deal. Hollywood will burn itself out on this as it always does, because all the accolades accorded this movie will spawn all manner of cheap knock-off films. There will be a glut of poorly written, schlocky rip-offs, each one trying to be more daring than the other, and the public will grow tired of it. The only ground Brokeback Mountain will break is formulaic repetition. The bottom line in cinema is the box office receipts that this genre will make. Love stories traditionally don’t pull down the bucks like everyone involved hopes.

I have also seen Brokeback. I actually live in Hollywood Hills and get a lot of free tickets. I would never have paid to see it. It’s BORING. Chick flick at best.

I question the accuracy of the claim that it took only $14 million ot make. 2 big name actors and a big name director each would normally take more than $14 million a piece. Either they are lying about the budget or the actors took the movie at charity salaries for political reasons.
Update, I just found out that it cost another 15 million just to advertise it. So that said, it’s still down $3milllion.

The internet chatter is $14m to make. This seems stupidly low for a modern film so either someone is lying or two of the hottest stars and a hot director did it for peanuts. $14m for advertising seems conservative. We all saw the campaign splashes!
Box office gross = what as studio net? I don’t know as every deal is individual but I know that the theaters and the distributor take huge cuts from the ticket price.
According to Fox its dropping off to nothing already. Foreign sales likely to be peanuts so it’s down to DVDs. Can’t see it being a big seller myself.
Likely it will make a huge loss and likely we will never be told that.
